Fire Extinguishers


There are various types of fire extinguishers which are suitable for tackling various types of fires, and some extinguishers are multipurpose and can therefore be used to tackled more than one type of fire. These different types of fires are broken down into classes. These classes are based on the type of materials or substances that fuel the fire.


A Class A fire is one which involve combustible materials such as paper, wood, and fabrics. This type fire can be tackled with a Water, Foam, Dry Powder, or Wet Chemical Extinguisher.

A Class B fire is one which involves flammable liquids such as petrol or paint. This type of fire can be tackled with a Foam, Dry Powder, or CO2 Gas Extinguisher.

A Class C fire is one which involves flammable gasses such as propane, butane, or methane. This type of fire can be tackled with a Dry Powder Extinguisher.


A Class D fire is one which involves flammable metals such as lithium or potassium. This type of fire can be tackled with a Dry Powder Extinguisher.

A Class E fire is one which involves electrical equipment such as computers or televisions. This type of fire can be tackled with a Dry Power or CO2 Gas Extinguisher.

 

A Class F fire is one which involves cooking oil, grease, or fat. This type of fire can be tackled with a Wet Chemical Extinguisher.
